Star Student of the Week!
Congratulations to Daniella, our New Star Student of the Week! Danielle receives a special Ribbon of Recognition, Pencil, Bookmark, and Certificate for being chosen. Daniella loves the arts and is often practicing singing, acting, and dancing. She also loves to read and has read over 400 minutes in one week! Each Friday a different student will be chosen to be the next "Star" Student of the Week. As students are chosen, information about them will be posted outside the classroom in the hallway. They may bring in pictures or special things they would like to share with the class or post on the Star Board. The children are very excited about being able to share their talents with each other. You can learn more about our Star Student by checking out this weeks "star" board!
The Power of Reading
Although homework will be assigned Monday - Thursday, READING should be a daily activity in which each child is engaged. A Reading Log will be filled out and turned in daily! You may want yo set time aside each night for reading with or to your child. Some children feel they only need to read when they are told to read. This can be a problem. "Students' attitude and motivation affect their success in learning to read and write" (Walberg & Tsai, 1985). Talk to your child about reading. What are their interests? Ask your child how they feel about their reading. Let them see you read as well. Have your child talk to you about the book they are reading. Them them express their own ideas and opinions about a news article they read. Reading, writing, listening, and talking are all important in motivating your child to read!
Snacks and Lunch
**An IMPORTANT reminder to everyone that we now have students in our class who are very allergic to nuts! Please try to refrain from having your child bring any kind of snack and/or lunch to school taht contains any form of nuts. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter. For some children, it really is a matter of life and death!
BOX TOPS
It is that time of year again! We are collecting Box Tops for our class. Please have your child bring in their Box Tops from specially marked packets and products. Our school and class benefits by receiving many needed supplies. Thank you in advance for your participation. We are looking forward to a successful campaign!
Caroling at the Center
I am very proud of our students for deciding to do a little "giving" this year. We had a wonderful time caroling at the New Fairfield Senior Center. The studnets presented cards and treats to the seniors and everyone was very happy to share their talents!
Pen Pals!
We are anxiously waiting for letters from southern Oklahoma from our new Pen Pals! We will be exchanging letters with Mrs. Miller's third grade class throughout the year. This is a great way to improve our letter writing while learning about a different part of the United States!
