Dear Families and Staff,

As you are aware, Governor Lamont announced yesterday that the executive order requiring mask-wearing in schools is set to expire on February 15th, with a possible extension to February 28th.  The State government has shifted this decision to the local level.

At the February 15th Board of Education meeting, the Board of Education will review the masking mandates and the data collected from a staff and parent survey, sent out today, regarding masking.  They will also hear from the New Fairfield Health Department to review their recommendations.  At some point before February 28th, the BOE will vote on whether to make mask-wearing optional or required in our schools.

While there will be many opinions about what we should or shouldn't do, we ask that everyone remain patient during the next two weeks while we discuss this issue.

Finally, I would like to thank our staff for their continued dedication to teaching and learning. Despite the challenges and adversity of the past two years, they remain committed to educating students at the highest level.

Thank you for your support and cooperation.

Sincerely,

Dr. Pat Cosentino

Superintendent
